Products Lighters
Given that product safety is one of the priority issues both in the European Union and in the Republic of Serbia, the Law on General Product Safety requires that all products placed on the market must be safe. On the other hand, consumers should have all essential information related to the safety of products offered on the market.
Since lighters are products that can be dangerous themselves, because they produce flame or heat and contain flammable fuel, there are standards related to the safety of lighters.
The standards related to the safety of lighters in Serbia are:
SRPS EN ISO 9994:2019 Lighters - Safety specification (valid from 31.07.2019) which establishes specifications for the quality, reliability and safety of lighters in combination with appropriate production testing procedures. However, this standard does not include child safety specifications.
The safety of children in relation to lighters is regulated by a standard
SRPS EN 13869:2017 Lighters - Requirements for lighters with regard to child safety - Safety requirements and test methods (valid from November 30, 2017), which stipulates that only those lighters that are safe for children can be placed on the market of the Republic of Serbia.
A childproof lighter is a lighter that has been modified to make it more difficult for children to light because it requires more pressure. The childproof lighter is not completely safe for children. A child-proof lighter (CR) is a lighter that at least 85% of children under 51 months of age are unable to light. This means that 15% of children could be capable of lighting it up. Therefore, adults should always make sure that children do not get hold of lighters, even though they have child protection.
When it comes to the safety of lighters, there is no compromise and that is why quality and safety are the first priority for us as importers.
